How soon after a sexual encounter can I get tested?

Better2Know’s Full Screen requires a minimum of 28 days incubation. Testing within this four-week period can affect the accuracy of your results, potentially compromising your sexual health.

Which samples does the Full Screen require?

The Better2Know Full Screen uses blood and urine samples to detect six harmful infections. There are no swabs associated with this screen and you will not be required to fast before testing. To ensure that you can provide a sample of urine at your confidential appointment, you are advised to avoid visiting the toilet for at least two hours prior to testing.

What happens at my appointment?

Your screen will be performed by a qualified clinician, who will explain the test to you before collecting your blood and urine samples. Once your samples have been taken, they will be sent directly to our fully accredited laboratory where they will then be analysed.

When will my confidential results be available?

Your results will be ready between one and five working days after your samples have been received by our central laboratory.

How will my results be reported?

The results of your Full Screen will be reported to your secure Patient Area on the Better2Know website. You can log in at any time to access them. We will also contact you personally as soon as all your results are ready, though you can choose to call us instead if you would prefer.

What if my screen is reactive?

Should your Full Screen prove reactive, Better2Know can arrange private consultations with a Better2Know Doctor who will discuss your results and diagnosis. Depending on your infection, your Doctor may be able to provide you with a prescription for the necessary medication.

If your test is reactive for HIV, Syphilis or Hepatitis B, we will perform further, confirmatory sample testing at no extra charge. You will also be referred to a specialist service if needed. Alternatively, you can elect to take your results to your own GP.
