What is Zika?
The Zika virus is most commonly transmitted by the aedes mosquito. For most people, the infection is mild, with symptoms tending to last between two and seven days. It can be transferred through sexual contact including vaginal, anal or oral intercourse.
Expectant mothers are most at risk regarding this infection as it can cause critical birth defects if acquired during pregnancy.

How is Zika treated?
There is currently no specific treatment for the Zika infection but keeping hydrated and taking paracetamol may help the consequential symptoms. If you are returning to Europe from a high-risk area, it is important that you get tested to manage and monitor any potential infection.
