What is Trichomonas?
Trichomonas is caused by a protozoan which is similar to bacteria. This small organism can infect the urethra and occasionally the prostate gland in men, and the urethra or vagina in a woman. It is often transmitted through vaginal, anal or oral sexual contact, particularly without the use of protection, such as condoms.

How is Trichomonas treated?
Trichomonas is curable but is unlikely to go away without treatment. The infection may cure itself in rare cases, but you risk passing the infection on to someone else if you are not treated. Most people are prescribed a course of antibiotics, and you are advised to abstain from sex until you are sure that you are free from infection.
What else should I get tested for?
Not all sexually transmitted infections, Trichomonas included, show symptoms in the initial stages, which makes it even more important to get tested as regularly as possible. Our Platinum Screen was designed by a panel of medical specialists to give you a comprehensive view of your sexual health. The screen is available just 28 days after an incident of concern and includes testing for HIV, Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Syphilis, Herpes I/II, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Mycoplasma and Gardnerella, as well as Trichomonas.
If you would like to be tested for these STIs even sooner, Better2Know’s Early Platinum Screen will detect the same array of infections at half the incubation period.
