Which sexually transmitted infections does the Complete Screen test for?
- HIV I/II and the p24 antigen
- Hepatitis B
How soon after a sexual encounter can I get tested?
The Better2Know Complete Screen requires a minimum incubation period of 28 days. This means that you are eligible for this screen at least four weeks after any potential exposure. The Complete Screen has been specially designed by a panel of medical specialists to provide men, more specifically gay men and men who sleep with men (MSM), with a comprehensive picture of their sexual health.
Which samples does the Complete Screen require?
The Complete Screen uses blood and urine samples to detect a variety of harmful infections. There are no painful or embarrassing swabs required and you will not need to fast before your test. To ensure that you can provide a urine sample at your appointment, we advise you to refrain from using the toilet for at least two hours prior to testing.
What happens at my appointment?
At your confidential appointment, you will be seen by a trained clinician who will collect your samples and send them to our accredited laboratory for analysis.
When will my confidential results be available?
The results of your Complete Screen will be available one to five working days after your samples have arrived at our certified, European laboratory.
How will my results be reported?
Your results will be accessible at any time via the secure patient log-in area of our website. We will also send you a text or email, or call you, as soon as they are all available, unless you request otherwise.
What if my screen is reactive?
If your Complete Screen returns a positive result, we can arrange a private consultation with a Better2Know doctor who will discuss your diagnosis. Depending on your infection, the doctor may be able to provide a prescription for the medication you need. If you test positive for HIV, Syphilis or Hepatitis B, we will perform further, confirmatory testing of your sample at no additional charge. If necessary, you will also be referred to a specialist service. You can, of course, opt to show your results to another doctor or sexual health centre.
